1650hp Mazda RX7?

At 73 years young, Honest George (as we've come to know him), brought us his Mazda RX7 powered by a single turbocharged 355 Chevy. Racking up 17 years of street duty, the V8 powered RX7 was in need of an update as George was becoming bored with it. We decided to answer the request wth our NRE Twin Turbo 427sbc Hot Rod Series Engine. Backed by a Mike's Transmision 400 trans and Moser nodular 35 spline 9-inch rear end, this 1650hp behemoth was just what George was looking for.

To keep things cool we built two engine radiators, one primary and a smaller secondary radiator running parallel to the ground. We built an air-to-air intercooler, sectioned the bumper to flow cold air to it, and added a large tranny cooler. We also built twin gas tanks, one for 91 octane and one for 116 octane. We set up the fuel injection to run on 91 octane until 2 pounds of boost, then switching to add the 116 octane to compensate for the added boost. To stiffen the chasis, we added a full chromoly cage. The car was rewired with a Ron Francis wiring system to keep things clean and operating.

Keeping the car a sleeper is important to George so we left the 1980's whale tail wing and added a few scratches. The result? Well let's just say if you find yourself next to a blue Rx7 with a V8 rumble and a smiling 73 year old behind the wheel...you may want to reconsider
